The largest megawatt wind turbine installed in Sheyang,Jiangsu Province
China’s first 6MW offshore wind turbine was successfully installed in Sheyang, Jiangsu Province recently. The wind turbine is wholly developed by Sinovel and is the largest installed megawatt wind turbine in China. Schaeffler provided both the main shaft bearing and the pitch bearing as well as the development and delivery of the related parts.
The 6MW wind turbine is China’s first independently developed and grid-friendly wind turbine with full independent intellectual property right. It can be used extensively for wind farms with different wind resource conditions in various environments such as land, sea and intertidal zone. The impeller, which extends 128 meters in diameter, increases the sweeping area and capacity for wind collection and boosts the effective utilization of wind resources.
The main shaft bearing and the pitch bearing, the wind turbine’s key components, are provided by Schaeffler. The main shaft bearing, 3.2 meters in diameter and over 6.8 tons in weight, is a double-row tapered roller bearing. The pitch bearing, 3.6 meters in diameter and 5.17 tons in weight, is a large size four point contact bearings slewing ring. It is the Schaeffler’s key bearing components plus the advanced technology from Sinovel that makes the record-breaking wind turbine stand upright on the Yellow Sea of East China.
